Each spring MCEA awards one or more scholarships to children of members. A beginning donation of 300 dollars is made to the fund by MCEA. When a relative from a member's immediate family dies, MCEA donates 25 dollar to the MCEA Scholarship Fund in the deceased person's name. Since the Scholarship Fund began, MCEA has given out over 10,000 dollars in scholarships. The number of scholarships awarded and scholarship amounts are dependent on the amount of money donated in a given year. Selection of receipients is made after considering income, family factors, grade point average, education association activity and other financial help (used in case of a tie).
Scholarships are awarded on a point system taking the above listed factors into consideration. Applications must now include a copy of the most recent income tax form (1040, 1040A,etc.) of the person claiming the applicant as a dependent. All applications are kept confidential and are shredded following the selection of the recepients.
If you are interested in applying for a scholarship for your child see your building representative for an application.
Scholarship applications for the 2006-2007 school year will be available in early April. Contact your building representative, high school guidance counselor, or any officer/executive committee member if you need an application. Application deadline will be announced and will be in early to mid May.
